Former Chappaqua Teacher Charged with Sexual Abuse of Minors

The speech and drama teacher resigned his position Sept. 4.

A former Chappaqua teacher gave himself up to police Wednesday to face charges of having sexual contact with students.

An article on lohud.com said Christopher Schraufnagel, 41, a former speech and drama teacher at Horace Greeley High School, surrendered to authorities at the New Castle Police headquarters.

The charges leveled against Schraufnagel are as follows: one count of third-degree criminal sex act, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, all misdemeanors.

The complaint against him stated there were three victims, all of whom were 15 at the time.

Lohud.com reported the complaint said there was an instance of Schraufnagel in oral sexual conduct with one of the then 15-year-olds. Other complaint were publicly humiliating students and instances of inappropriate conversations with sexual overtones and contact.

Schraufnagel resigned Sept. 4 after 12 years of teaching at Greeley.
