Fox Lane Beats Greeley 4-0 in Field Hockey
Nellie Mitchell leads the way with first career hat trick.
Fox lane senior Nellie Mitchell reached a personal milestone in Friday night's field hockey matchup against Horace Greeley.
Mitchell achieved her first varsity hat trick during last night's homecoming game, as she led the Foxes to a dominating 4-0 win over the Quakers at Fox Lane High School, pushing her team's winning streak to three.
Mitchell scored the Fox Lane's first three goals of the game -- two in the first half – which gave Fox Lane a comfortable margin. Her first goal came at the 17:13 mark on a tip in and her second came four minutes later.

"It definitely was my first hat trick. I would've remembered if I had done it before in the past," Mitchell said. "Although the hat trick felt nice it was a total team effort all around. We had really good ball movement and strong passes all over the field and that was the key."
Mitchell scored her third goal with 23:34 left to go and teammate Allison Lombardi put in Fox Lane's final goal with a little over 15 minutes remaining. Fox Lane was able to substantially dominate the time of possession and scoring opportunities. Horace Greeley goalie Jessica Ma (17 saves) faced heavy action as Fox Lane managed to outshoot Horace Greeley 21 to 2 for the game.

"I was most proud of how we were moving the ball out there and developing great field chemistry as a team," Fox Lane head coach Melissa Heyde said. "It was really nice to see Nellie put in those three goals. She's been working so hard over these last four years and she really deserves it."
Horace Greeley was without two of their top two players in captains Katelyn Francese (injury) and Laura Ogden (illness) according to Horace Greeley head coach Sukhwinder Singh.
"I would've love to have them but they weren't available so we went with some of our younger players and they gave a lot of effort," Singh said. "Fox Lane is a good team and on the turf the game is a little faster than on grass and we didn't adjust as well."
Lindsay Toppe had two assists. Jackie Gigante (one save) and Vanessa Darling (one save) combined for the shutout.
