Fox Lane Girls Lax Wins Section I Championship, Beats Yorktown 17-11
It is the first sectional title in the program's history.

Fox Lane's girls lacrosse team made history on Tuesday in front of its hometown fans.
Behind five goals from sophomore Lexi Cannon, including three in the second half, Fox Lane led the entire game and won the Section 1 Class B Championship for the first time in school history, 17-11.
The game was close throughout most of the first half, and the offense for both sides was scoring with ease. Fox Lane jumped out to an early 4-1 lead behind two goals from sophomore Sammy Jo Tracy and junior captain Lindsay Toppe.

Yorktown, the defending Class B champion, battled back and cut the lead to 6-5 behind the scoring of midfielder Lindsay Scott.
With eight minutes remaining in the half, Fox Lane extended the lead to 9-5, thanks to goals from Toppe and Cannon. The Foxes led 10-7 at the half.

Scott and Toppe each finished with four goals and the game was shaping up to be a battle between each team's best players.
The Foxes came out of the second half just like they ended the first half and extended their lead to 12-7. Yorktown continued to keep the game close, but that is when Cannon took control of the game.
Cannon scored with 14:24 remaining and would tally another one 28 seconds later to extend the lead to 14-9. Yorktown closed the gap to 15-11, but that was as close as it got. Cannon ended the scoring with a little more than six minutes remaining with her fifth goal of the game.
Six different players scored for the Foxes. Fox Lane Head Coach Bill Broggy liked the balance his team showed throughout the game.
"We just continued to push the ball, that's what we've done all year," he said. "We play an uptempo style and that's what were always going to do."
Cannon said that playing at home also helped the team relax.
"Being home is very comfortable, helps everyone focus and stay in the game and we know this field much better than any other field and it worked for us," she said.
Fox Lane Goalkeeper Jenn Pollock finished with eight saves and Sydney Stern added two goals and four assists.
The Foxes season will now continue into the state tournament, where they will play Niskayuna, the Section II Class B winner, in the quarterfinals at the University at Albany on June 5.
Until then, the Foxes will celebrate the first girls lacrosse championship in school history, and Toppe will look to find a way to put that into words.
"It's just such an incredible feeling," she said. "We've gone farther then we have ever gone before and I think I'm just speechless" she said.
