The Golden Scoop 2017 Won by Mt Kisco-Based Curtis Instruments

Fourteen corporate teams competed to see who could repack the most pounds of pasta from bulk quantity to 1-lb bags in an hour.

MOUNT KISCO, NY — Food Bank for Westchester, the leading hunger-relief organization serving Westchester County, hosted its 9th Annual Golden Scoop Corporate Competition May 19 to help raise awareness of hunger. Fourteen corporate teams of 20 employees competed to see who could repack the most pounds of pasta from bulk quantity to one-pound bags in one hour. Mount Kisco-based Curtis Instruments was the winner, packing an astounding 1,700 lbs. of pasta in one hour.

The grand total packed by all teams was a tremendous 19,079 lbs. of food that will be delivered to individuals who are hungry in Westchester.

“Our Annual Golden Scoop Competition provides an exciting hour of energy filled with spirited competition – all for a good cause!” said Leslie Gordon, President and CEO of Food Bank for Westchester. “Without the help of our corporate partners who participate in events like this and other initiatives year round, we wouldn’t be able to serve our community the way we do. We are grateful to everyone who participated this year.”

This year’s participants were: Curtis Instruments, Capital One, Stop & Shop, PKF O’Connor Davies, Dannon, JP Morgan Chase (which had two teams), Swiss Re, Morgan Stanley, Bunge, NewYork-Presbyterian, AQR, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Agera Energy.

Curtis Instruments will be presented with the coveted Golden Scoop Award at the Food Bank’s 10th Annual Hunger Heroes Awards Breakfast on June 1 at Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown. They will keep possession of the coveted trophy for one year, until next year’s competition.

All proceeds generated at the event benefitted the Food Bank, the supply and support center for over 265 hunger-relief member programs throughout Westchester, including food pantries, soup kitchens, senior and child day care centers, shelters and residences. There are 200,000 hungry individuals in Westchester County, mostly seniors and children.

Food Bank for Westchester provides 95 percent of all emergency food distributed in Westchester.

For over 28 years, Food Bank for Westchester has led the fight against hunger in Westchester County, serving 300 frontline programs that provide food directly to county residents.
