Good Samaritan and Social Host Laws: A Primer for Parents

A representative from the Westchester County DA's Office will discuss the Good Samaritan and social host laws

A representative from the Westchester County District Attorney's Office will present a “Primer for Parents” on their responsibilities when it comes to hosting at home parties, an overview of the Good Samaritan law, and the legal consequences of teen alcohol and drug use. The presentation will be held at the monthly Mount Kisco Partners In Prevention meeting on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 7pm at Town Hall, Second Floor, 104 Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Borelli, Chief of Northern Westchester Branch of the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, will be the guest speaker. He will cover these topics: Social Host Law: Parental Do's & Don'ts; the Good Samaritan Law: When Parents and Teens Should Call 911 and Teen alcohol/drug use: Consequences for Parents.

“As we start the school year, this is a good time to remind parents and teens about two important laws—the social host law outlines a parent's responsibility if they or their children are having a party. Equally important is the Good Samaritan Law which is designed to save lives. The law protects those who call 911 seeking medical help for individuals who have consumed too much alcohol or may be suffering a drug overdose,” said Nan Miller, PhD, LCSW, Mt. Kisco Partners In Prevention Coordinator.
