Greeley Blasts Brewster 35-14 in Football Opener
Quarterback Justin Ciero rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns.

It was an opening day to remember for Horace Greeley, when the Quakers football team traveled up to Brewster to take on the Brewster Bears. Behind 162 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Quarterback Justin Ciero, the Quakers won by a score of 35-14.
The tone for the entire game was set up from the start when the Bears took their first snap on offense. On the play, the snap was mishandled and the Quakers recovered the fumble, and after one play the Quakers had the ball inside the Bears' 20-yard line.
On the second play after the fumble, Ciero was able to break out on a keeper to the left and go 17 yards for the touchdown and give his team an early 7-0 lead less then one minute into the game.

Brewster went three and out on its second possession and Greeley went right back to work on offense and continued to run the ball with ease.
On third-and-goal, on the next Quaker possession, Ciero once again had the ball in his hands and he was able to get the final three yards and score his second touchdown of the day and give the Quakers a 14-0 lead.

"The game plan calls for keeping teams on their toes," said Ciero. "We pass just enough to get them on their toes, open up the run game and we just look to execute."
The first quarter had started off perfectly for Greeley and it continued with another big play on defense. On the next possession, Brewster turned the ball over again, as Nick Weber intercepted an option pass and took it 40 yards for the touchdown. Greeley was up 21-0 by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same for Greeley, as Ciero scored his third touchdown of the game, on a 6-yard run and gave his team a 28-0 lead.
Brewster got on the board on its next possession with a 64-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 28-7, but Greeley answered on its next possession with a 1-yard touchdown run by Gustavo Larramendi and at halftime it was 35-7 Greeley.
The second half only saw the Bears score a touchdown mid-way through the third quarter to cut the lead to 35-14, but it was too little too late. Greeley was never threatened in the second half and ran the clock out after getting the ball back with more than eight minutes left in the game.
The game was also a milestone achievement for Head Coach Bill Tribou as with the win he now has the most wins by a coach in Horace Greeley history. At the end of the day, he was impressed by not only what his quarterback did, but his offensive line as well.
"The game plan going in is to put the ball into Justin's hands, he is a kind of a freakish athlete, and he is just a great football player and the offensive line was dominant as well," he said.
