Head-On School Bus Crash In Westchester: Serious Injuries Reported

NEW CASTLE, NY — A head-on collision with serious injuries involving a school bus closed a Westchester highway for several hours.

Lake Road was closed between Croton Lake Road and Crow Hill Road due to the serious crash and resulting investigation, according to an alert issued by the New Castle Police Department. Authorities urged motorists to avoid Lake, warning at the time that detours will be in place for the "foreseeable future."

Initial reports indicated that children were injured in the crash involving a small school bus. Police reportedly managed to extinguish flames at the scene just before fire and ambulance crews arrived.

At least seven were injured and taken to Westchester Medical Center, according to WABC News NY. The crash was first reported Wednesday around 2:15 p.m. at Lake Road near Crow Hill Road close to the New Castle and Mount Kisco border.

The bus and the vehicle apparently collided head-on, according to a report over the scene from PIX11 News. Video from the station's AIR11 showed the front end of both vehicles smashed together. The windshields were cracked and debris littered the roadway, according to the report.
