Hoverboard Explodes, Damaging Chappaqua Home

The holiday gift went up in flames, fire officials said.

Chappaqua firefighters were called Dec. 6 to a home where an electrical malfunction caused a Swagway Smart Balancing Electric Skateboard Black (purchased from Modell’s Online) to catch fire and cause considerable smoke damage to the residence.

Had the homeowners not been home at the time, their home would have sustained significant fire damage, Chappaqua fire officials said.

The Chappaqua Fire Department planned to notify to the Consumer Product Safety Commission as well as the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
