Jiu-Jitsu Aces Earn First Place Using Martial Arts Discipline

First up was Luis. Luis is a monster pure and simple. He is always able to push kids ranked above him tho their utmost limits. When I teach Luis a move in class he comes back the next class able to pull it off from multiple positions. It’s truly amazing. He had two matches against very skilled kids. He was able to secure submission wins in both on his way to earning first place.

When you combine a strong work ethic, discipline and determination there is no telling how far you can go. A few weeks ago my school took a trip up to Albany for a Jiu-Jitsu tournament. This is a martial art where the combatants start off on their feet and try to control there opponents to the ground in order to secure a submission and make them tap out. It is a very grueling martial art that requires strength, courage and a fitness level unparalleled to most other sports.

Next was “Captain Cool”. That is the name we affectionately give Joshua as he is just always so calm and cool. Then once the matches start he takes off at his advisory like a rocket shot in to space. He was competing at NAGA for the very first time and was noticeably nervous. Not as nervous as his poor mother who was gripping the steel barricade so tight I swear she bent it. Joshua had two matches as well and secured wins in both on his way to earning first place in his first tournament.

I must add that we had many other kids that competed and placed as well. At the time of this blog I only had pictures of these two so look out for more to come. The courage it takes to put your self out there, to test your resolve against unknown opponents is what martial arts is all about. Now as pleased as I am that the boys won I’m more impressed with the fashion in which they performed. Very efficient and humble at the same time. I am very proud of their accomplishments and honored to be their instructor.
