Karate Kids Turn Wanting To Quit Into A Chance To Grow Stronger

Karate Kids Turn Wanting To Quit Into A Chance To Grow Stronger In Westchester NY. Instead Of Giving In These Kids Dig Deep To Find Their Non Quitting Spirit & Overcome The Challenges They Face. Focusing With Discipline To Find The Real Reason & Cause Of The Problem Instead Of Running From It.

The essence of  martial arts is based in three main things. Discipline, focus and non quitting spirit. While all are important the most valuable may be the last one. Non quitting spirit. All of us have come across a challenge in our lives that just seemed so insurmountable, so intimidating that the thought of just turning and running from it as fast as you possibly could entered into your mind. Knowing that these challenges are the building blocks to life is essential in facing and ultimately conquering them. This is not an easy lesson to teach someone. Especially a child. Martial arts has been teaching this lesson for thousands of years and the children make it look easy.

Think back in your own life. Think of a time where the weight of your struggles felt like they were crushing you. So much in fact that you had no idea how you were going to be able to crawl out from underneath it. Now imagine that you let it. That you gave up and didn’t crawl out. That you didn’t rise to your feet and dust of the dirt. Where would you be right now? And if as you read this you are saying that you were not strong enough to crawl out at that time, imagine where you would be if you were. Human will is the most powerful force in this universe. If we want something bad enough to sacrifice for it we will eventually get it. We just need the discipline and patience to stick it out how ever long it may take. My mother used to call me stubborn as a child and I’d apologize. She then would say no don’t apologize. It’s a good thing. I understand that now. I understand that my stubbornness speaks to my inner strength and motivation to not give up.

In martial arts more then anything else I can think of the thought of quitting presents itself. While learning self defense you will face many challenges and need to overcome many fears. What is possibly more scary then being physically beating? Not much if you ask me. We face that fear everyday. When you find the thing that frightens you the most and you meet it head on it soon loses it’s strength to scare you. It becomes something you’ve seen before. Martial arts kids learn to translate this lesson to other areas of their lives. School work, social situations or anything that can seem intimidating or threatening. They understand that they need to face it with courage and resolve and they have the tools like non quitting spirit and self confidence to do so.

With children the desire to quit is usually clouded. The reason that they don’t want to continue is not always the one they say. They may say they don’t like it or it is boring to them. The real reason is one of two things. They are afraid or they feel they are not good. Both of those problems are easily fixed but getting the child to admit to those things can prove very challenging. In martial arts we face our challenges and fears head on so we can get past them. If a child is afraid of something in the class we can focus their attention to parts of the class that do not scare them. If they feel they are not doing well we can make sure they focus on the things they do well. These problems are easily fixed when presented to your instructor early. The more time that goes by the harder it is to fix them. Like in life, constant communication is a key to success.

“Quitting is not an option. That might be the stupidest saying ever. It most definitely is an option. In fact it is the easiest option to take. That doesn’t make it the right one though. I’ts not the option that makes you stronger.”

Anyone who tells you that they are never afraid or nervous is lying. If someone tells you they don’e consider quitting they are trying to convince themselves more than they are trying to convince you. You have to consider it. If you don’t then you miss the chance to say no. Saying no to quitting empowers you. It gives you that little push you might need to keep going. When the thought or idea of quitting pops in my head I get mad at myself and rededicate my efforts with a ferocity unlike I had earlier. I will not allow myself to give up and that makes me stronger. Strong enough now to get it done.

When your goals seem out of reach and you feel like you are stuck in the mud just try to relax. Know in your heart that you have been challenged before and emerged stronger.
