Kickboxing & Jiu-Jitsu Tournament Makes Karate Kids Stronger. The Discipline & Determination They Used To Get There Is The Real Trophy. These Kids From Westchester NY Are All Champions In Martial Arts.
If you have ever trained martial arts before then you know what you are about to read is the truth. If you haven’t then I hope this article inspires you to start training. It is not the destination but the journey that makes you stronger. The time and effort put into the journey are what really matter. The sacrifice needed, the many pains and struggles that put the thought of quitting in your head. The hours of training kickboxing, jiu-jitsu and cardio would be enough to crush the average person. Martial artists are far from normal as we know.

This past weekend I had the honor of sending a handful of my students to the Challenge of Champions tournament. In this competition they have an option to compete in kickboxing and jiu-jitsu. The mere fact that they are willing to put themselves out there, test their skill against unknown opponents is enough to bring a tear to my eye. For some people the fear of a physical confrontation is crippling. The weight of that fear crushes their spirit and prevents them from even attempting something like this. People will plan their entire lives around this in a hope to prevent it at all costs. A martial artist refuses to be held back by fear. It’s not to say we don’t feel it. We feel it just like everyone else does. We have chosen to look fear in the eye and slap it in the face as we say “You can’t stop me!”
“It’s not the destination but the journey that makes you stronger. The sacrifice and resolve needed to accomplish a goal requires a tremendous amount of discipline. Always remember that human will is the single most powerful force in this universe. When we believe in ourselves there is nothing we can not do.”
Some of the kids came home with trophies. Others came home with participation patches. They all came back stronger though. Facing your fear makes you stronger. Testing you skills makes you stronger. What we do here besides developing discipline and focus is providing students with the tools they need to defend themselves and building up their self confidence. Martial artists train and train in hopes to sharpen their skills so they can defend themselves and their loved ones. How do you know your skills are up to the task if they are never tested? The tournament gives them a safe place to test their skills. To see what is working for them and see what needs improvement. The tournament matches are as close to a real fight as it gets.

I’m so proud of my students. I’m proud of all those who competed. The courage it takes just to go is unbelievable. The dedication and resolve to sacrifice your free time in order to accomplish a goal requires tremendous discipline unseen in this world today. It is truly my honor to have been a part of this. Thank you all.
