Leading law enforcement groups say Murphy is clear choice for State Senate

YORKTOWN, NY - Two leading law enforcement groups announced their support for State Senator Terrence Murphy today. The Affiliated Police Association of Westchester, Inc., which accounts for more than 50 local and statewide police unions representing more than 10,000 members, as well as the New York State Association of PBAs pointed to Senator Murphy's leadership in combating the heroin epidemic among other issues.
State Senator Terrence Murphy said, "It is an honor to stand in the company of these law enforcement officials and to receive their blessing. There's a shocking statistic that has just been released - there were more Fentanyl deaths in 2017 than ever before. It is our obligation as elected officials to give law enforcement the tools they need to stay safe and to keep our communities safe."
Keith Olsen, President of the Westchester Affiliated Police Association and Yonkers Police Benevolent Association added, "We proudly endorse Senator Murphy in his bid for re-election to New York State's 40th Senate District. It's a no brainer. Senator Murphy is the right and only candidate in this race for us to support. He's shown his commitment to the people he serves in his battle against the heroin and opioid epidemic, his stance on child abuse and sexual harassment and his bill demanding no parole for cop killers. We truly appreciate what Senator Murphy has done for us and our communities."
In response to the release of cop-killer Herman Bell, Senator Murphy authored legislation to ensure anyone who murders a first responder faces life in prison without parole. S.7976 passed the Senate this year but failed to be brought for a vote in the Assembly.
"The police respond whenever we call," Murphy added. "My job is to make sure they can do their job safely and return home. No more killers like Herman Bell, who murdered two officers responding to an emergency call and nis now out on parole casting a vote thanks to an executive pardon."
Michael O'Meara, Vice President of the New York State Association of PBAs and President of the MTA PBA said, "Both of our organizations are proud to endorse Senator Murphy. The New York State Association of PBAs has a strong presence in Albany. We talk with Senator Murphy all the time. He's a great advocate for police and for the people of this state. The MTA has about 700 members who live in the 40th Senate District. We couldn't ask for anyone better to represent our members and families."
