Letter to the Editor: Don't Sell Kisco Mountain Parcel For Development

The writer wants the Mount Kisco community to preserve the 51 acres as green space and work to promote underused property elsewhere.

Letter to the Editor:

Re.: Development on Kisco Mountain

Let’s work as a community to preserve and protect the 51 acres of the Kisco Mountain as a gift to the future generations of Mount Kisco residents. The proposed development will usurp acres of forested area, cut down 2000 trees over a steep slope of land above BMW / Curtis instruments off Kisco Avenue.

The Mount Kisco Historical Society, the Conservation Advisory Board, and the Trails Team have worked closely with the village over the past two years and have created several walking trails for residents in pocket green spaces in the village – Kisco Mountain / Lexington Avenue to name a few. The Kisco Mountain trail brings you to sites that overlook the village; the space proposed for development has been undisturbed since the 1800’s, representing the last remains of the farming history of Mount Kisco.

The trees and foliage in that area provide a canopy and beauty to the topography of “Mount” Kisco.

The Village of Mount Kisco owns this land; to sell off a piece of it creates a precedent for the future. Do we want more development on Kisco Mountain or should we as a town realize what green space brings to its residents?

Certainly, if development is desired for Mount Kisco to provide more income for the village, there are other commercial areas such as Radio Circle, and focusing more effort towards resolving the many unoccupied storefronts and buildings within town for this purpose, with less disturbance to the natural beauty that surrounds our village.
