Man Tried to Lure Girls Toward Car in Mount Kisco: Police

Police and Bedford school district officials sent out warnings.

MOUNT KISCO, NY — Westchester County Police are investigating two incidents that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Mount Kisco in which a man tried to lure a minor to approach his car.

Bedford school district parents were alerted last night by Superintendent Christopher Manno.

The first incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. on Langeland Drive when a teen-aged girl who was looking out the window of a home observed a car stop in front of the house. The man waved at her and motioned for her to come outside. The girl did not do so and the car drove away.

The incident was not immediately reported to police.

In the second incident, an 11-year-old girl was walking on Grove Street at 3:35 p.m. when a car pulled to the curb and the driver motioned for the girl to come toward him. When she ignored him and kept walking, the vehicle followed slowly to stay abreast of her. The girl then ran home and informed her mother, who reported the incident to county police.

In both incidents, the vehicle was described as a black or dark-colored four-door sedan. The driver was described as an older white male, possibly with grey hair and wearing a black parka. In one of the incidents, the driver wore a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Westchester County Police at 914-864-7701. All calls are confidential.

Manno told parents Wednesday night that the county police will be conducting high-visibility patrols in the area of the Mount Kisco Elementary School during drop-off and dismissal for at least the next few days.

Notifications have been made to the Bedford and Pound Ridge police departments and a Nixle alert was also put out to the 1300 village residents that subscribe to that service, Manno said.

"If you see something, say something," Manno said. "Please contact the police if you see or feel anything of concern. It is our collective responsibility to keep our children safe. Thank you for your assistance in this regard."
