New Menu, Designed by Television Celebrity Chef Brian Duffy, Debuts at The Nyack Pour House

A signature "stuffed burger," a variety of "Macky Cheese" dishes and a silo of piled-high "Empire State" hand-cut French fries (interwoven with pepperoni, four cheeses and green onions) typify the many imaginative items on a new menu created by TV celebrity chef Brian Duffy for the Nyack Pour House, a sports bar (with 30 TV sets) and restaurant in Nyack.

The menu also includes barbecue, wings, salads, sandwiches and a panini selection. About 100 beers, including 30 from New York State, and wine from California and New York are available.

The menu officially launches on Saturday, March 29, 2014 and it applies for both lunch and dinner seven days a week. The restaurant also plans on rolling out a weekend brunch menu in later April.

Duffy, after a chance meeting with Nyack Pour House representatives at a Las Vegas restaurant-industry show a year ago, was engaged to design the "relaunch" menu by the Nyack Pour House's co-owners (Ryan Spicer, his brother Sean, his sister Heidi Spicer Nolan and her husband Walt "Wally" Nolan).

The New Yorker burger is stuffed with pastrami, kraut, and American cheese and topped with cole slaw. It has five ounces of beef and comes with lettuce, tomato and red onion on a brioche roll and is priced at $12.99. Three other types of stuffed burgers are offered: Southern Love with pulled pork stuffing, The Curewith stuffed bacon, and the Italiano with pepperoni, salami and mozzarella. A more conventional (unstuffed) burger topped with caramelized onions, and with bacon and American cheese on a bun is also served and costs $10.

The "Macky Cheese" choices

  • Blackened flank steak with chopped bacon ($12.99)
  • Buffalo chicken with blue cheese and spicy bread crumbs ($11.99)
  • Fajita with pulled chicken, peppers, onions, fajita seasoning and bread crumbs ($11.99)
  • Classic with creamy cheese sauce and buttered bread crumbs ($9.99)

Duffy grew up in Philadelphia in a family having Irish-Italian roots—his mother, father (a high school chemistry teacher), two brothers and a sister all liked to cook. Entertaining company or just preparing dinner was occasionally a joint effort in the kitchen.

He worked at local restaurants while in high school and later in sales at a Ralph Lauren store in Philadelphia. After graduating from The Restaurant School in 1993, he gained enough practical restaurant-cooking experience to partner in the opening of a restaurant called Kristophers.

He cooked in Chef Jean Marie LaCroix's kitchen at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia.

Duffy would go on to be Corporate Executive Chef for Kildare's Irish Pub, Executive Chef and consultant at Seafood America and a cast member of multiple television cooking shows; he is the Chef Expert/Host on Spike TV's "Bar Rescue."
