Owl Rescued After Lunch Goes Wrong, But Doesn't Seem Especially Grateful

ARMONK, NY — An environmental conservation officer's work can be thankless, but sometimes it must feel like nobody gives a hoot.

An owl tangled in a soccer net in Armonk was freed on Aug. 28 after an environmental conservation officer responded to a call in Westchester County.

At the scene, the officer found the owl wrapped in netting while eating a rabbit. The officer carefully cut away the netting and freed the bird. The owl then flew away and appeared to be uninjured, but not in a very good mood.

The NYS DEC said the officer placed the dead rabbit in an open area, just in case the owl returned to finish its lunch.

Despite going the extra mile for the nocturnal bird of prey, the owl appeared to find the entire experience less than satisfactory.
