Ways in which well-intentioned parents undermine the college process.
-Parents forget to keep their child at the center of the process. Rather than focusing on "fit" parents focus on name brand.-Parents do all the work! They plan the college list, do the application and even write the essay! These students are more likely to transfer because there was no "buy in."
-Parents call the colleges on the "students behalf!" This completely disempowers the student and sends up the 'crazy' flares to the colleges.
There are guidelines for parents throughout the college process. A college adviser can work on behalf of the student and parent often in a way that is not alarming to the college or university.
