Peekskill Resident in Cast of "Let's Try Christmas" in Chappaqua

Local actors, musicians tap area's love of theater to illuminate the Christmas story as a bridge to the community.

Grace Baptist Church today announced it is producing a live musical drama, “Let’s Try Christmas” Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. on a new stage and set built inside the church’s auditorium at 12 Orchard Ridge Road, Chappaqua, for this and future community outreach shows.

Seating is on a first come, first served basis and complimentary.

The play, first produced in 2012 at First Baptist Church of Alexandria spins a ludicrous garland strand of fruitcake size proportions when Vikki Lincoln (Peekskill’s Heather Dunn), and her daughter Sherri, find themselves charged with “misrepresenting Christmas!”

What happens next is a whirlwind ride over the interrogation room and through the courtroom for these two angels as they find themselves at the mercy of a judge who seems hungrier for Christmas cookies than justice. Terrified on the witness stand by a cold-hearted prosecutor (Bonnie Ellis of Briarcliff Manor) and an out-of-control Chappaqua toy store owner, Michelline G. Dubois (Martha Galphin of Pleasantville), Vikki and Sherri’s fate rests in God, one eccentric interior designer (Robert Pennino of Yonkers) and their attorney, Perry Mason-Dixon, Esq.

“Christmas is a beautiful time in Chappaqua, throughout the Hudson Valley and it’s a chance to remember to give thanks for our many blessings,” said Pastor Larry Holland, Grace Baptist Church (GBC). “It’s been my experience that at this time of year, people are looking for something to lift their spirits and get them into the holiday state of mind. And this play is so chock full of comedy and uplifting Christmas music that you can’t help but leave the program inspired. My prayer is that the experience is one that brings the community back together again and again.”
