Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR Donates Books to Promote Literacy
Of 1,000 books collected at the NYDAR state conference, 659 were donated by the Polly Cooper Chapter.

From Polly Cooper NSDAR: To honor the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's (DAR) spirit of partnership with other organizations to promote literacy, the Polly Cooper Chapter collected and distributed children's books from New York State DAR chapters at their recent New York State Conference which was held at the end of last month in Tarrytown, New York.
Almost one thousand books were collected at the state conference, and 659 of those books were donated by the Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR. The books were then distributed to the SMART (Students and Mature Adults Read Together) Program - a model intergenerational literacy program that utilizes the largely untapped resources of our older adults to benefit the youth of Westchester. The board books that were collected were donated to the Open Book Program at Westchester Medical Center. The Open Book Program is a family reading program that is offered by trained volunteers to children and families who visit the pediatric clinics at White Plains Hospital Center, Westchester Medical Center, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. Janice Kirschner, from the SMART Program said of the donation: “We are so grateful to have these books donated for our students. A book opens the world for children to use their imagination and practice reading skills with books they actually enjoy. Thanks so very much!”
