Reception for Scarsdale Artist Mitch Goldberg to be Held at Upstream Gallery in Hastings on March 30
A wine-and-cheese reception is planned for "Variations," the next art show appearing at the Upstream Gallery in Hastings-on-Hudson. On display will be a number of Scarsdale artist Mitch Goldberg's glass etchings and paper collages. The reception runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on March 30, 2014. The show concludes on April 20.
"Variation is a concept that is meaningful for me on several levels," Goldberg said. "The fact that I work in glass, printmaking and collage is itself an important variation—it is compelling for me to explore the reinterpretation of ideas in each of these different materials."
"I love to merge the ideas together so I have done several two-plate etchings that layer an abstract image with a male figure study. I have also chosen to exhibit some of the figures both with and without the abstract layers, creating a dialogue between the two versions," Goldberg said.
Goldberg grew up in Scarsdale and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1976. He attended Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville and graduated in 1984.
During the past 14 years, he has taken classes in life drawing at Westchester Community College, the Center for the Arts, and studied printmaking with Bruce Waldman at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. He also studied with fused glass with Dorothy Hafner at her Connecticut studio for several years.
His work has appeared in Carrier Pigeon magazine, and at annual shows of The New York Society of Etchers. Examples can be seen at www.mitchellgoldbergart.com.
The multi-plate etching accompanying this article is called, "Driving Dream #2."
