Ride Your Cycles Like an Expert Surfer!!!

I have noticed lately that my clients have their own individual rhythms, as do I. These rhythms or “cycles” may or may not have something to do with our monthly periods (if you do still have your period, your rhythm may be easier to track…) But, I have found that no matter what, women tend to have cycles.

Here are some examples that I have observed. Does one resonate with you?

  1. Are you super productive for three weeks and then you just don’t understand why you can’t get anything done?
  2. Are you typically outgoing and then all of a sudden you want to hide?
  3. Perhaps you are excited to have a clear picture of your goals and suddenly you start to doubt yourself…

I truly believe that if we have a sense of our rhythms (or cycles!) we can proactively use this knowledge to our advantage. Here are three steps to consider:

  1. Track yourself to see if you do have a repeating rhythm/cycle. What is its length?
  2. Notice your “phases” within the cycle.
  3. Start to plan your life based on the personal patterns that you observe.

To clarify things a little, I will give you a personal example. I still get my period roughly every 28 days. For the first part of the month, I will be very upbeat and chatty – this is the best time for me to network, attend parties, or give a presentation. The last week of my cycle always ties into the new moon (my husband jokes about me being a werewolf and is waiting for me to howl and grow body hair, which luckily for me never happens!). I am much quieter as my cycle ends as it is my time to replenish, charge my batteries, and create new programs. Recognizing these differences has led me to understand that when I work with my own natural rhythm I am more able to go with the flow instead of pushing against it. And while I sometimes can’t avoid activities that are not in alignment with my cycle, my awareness of this reality enables me to proactively prepare to work my way through my resistance.

So, my strong belief is that the more we attune ourselves to our natural rhythms/cycles, the better able we are to ride our natural waves in a spectacular and glorious fashion. Conversely, fighting these metaphorical waves wastes our energy and sometimes results in the wave needlessly crashing on us.

Don’t you want to gloriously ride your waves?
