Team & Pool Records Broken: Congratulations to CST’s Gaige Elms, who broke the pool record in the Girls 14 and Under 50 Meter Backstroke. Gaige swam a 32.70 to break the previous record of 33.02, set in 2007 by Melissa Trail of Pound Ridge.

Congrats, also on two CST team records that were broken. Finn Franks broke the Boys 8 and Under 25 Meter Freestyle record. Finn swam a 16.35 to break the record previously set by teammate Wyatt Yates (16.44) in 2011.

The Boys 11 and Under Free Relay Team (Wyatt Yates, Adam Nack, Finn Franks, Joe Weiner) broke the CST team record with a 2:17.68. The previous record of 2:20.27 was set in 2012 by Joe Weiner, Stephen Pearce, Zachary Eichenberger, and Wyatt Yates.

Willowbrook’s 11 and Under Boys Free Relay Team (Noah Falbaum, Alex Nunez, Jonah Lichtenthal, Luke McHugh) swam a 2:15.67 to break the pool record from 2008 held by Yorktown (Daniel Evans, Eddie D’Amore, Nick Rabadi, Marcel Legros) with a 2:19.90.

Included in the pictures I’ll be forwarding are several of Sam Mason. Sam is a 10 and under boy on Chappaqua who has Cerebral Palsy. His great attitude, friendly demeanor, and determination are both heartwarming and inspiring. Sam swam in both “A” and “B” meets for us this summer and was raucously cheered on throughout his final race of the season: the 10 and under boys 50 meter freestyle.

Every summer, the swim and dive team has a Christmas in July practice with holiday music blaring, Christmas treats, swim sets based around holiday songs, and candy cane-stuffed stockings for all 114 swimmers and coaches lining the fence behind the starting blocks. This year, to recognize Sam’s efforts in the pool, we turned our Christmas in July into a “CP for CP” event (Christmas Party for Cerebral Palsy), with a suggested donation of $2.00 per swimmer/diver to go to United Cerebral Palsy. Parents and swimmers were quite generous with many giving much more than that and to this point, more than $450.00 has been raised!

Chappaqua will be competing in the 89th Annual Westchester County Swimming Championships fromMonday through Thursday this week at the Playland Pool in Rye. The NWSC Division 1 Diving Championships are on Wednesday at Briarcliff. The NWSC All-Star Diving Meet is Thursday at Lewisboro. The NWSC Division 1 Swim Championships are Saturday at Yorktown. CST’s swim, dive, and tennis team dinner is on Saturday afternoon/evening. The season concludes with the NWSC All-Star Swim Meet at Briarcliff on Sunday.

Best,
Dan Levy
CST Head Swim Coach
