Sunday's Black Ice Caused Taconic Fatal in Milan
The driver was a 60-year-old North Bellmore resident.

At about 6:21 p.m. Jan. 18, New York State Police, the Milan Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics were dispatched to a serious personal-injury auto collision that occurred on the Taconic State Parkway, in the Town of Milan.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they located a 1992 Mazda Miata with extensive collision damage, overturned in the passing lane of the parkway. The driver, 60-year-old Alan E. Stein, of North Bellmore, NY, was trapped inside the vehicle.
As a result of the crash, Stein had sustained severe head trauma and was pronounced dead by a paramedic on scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Stein was northbound on the Taconic State Parkway when he lost control of his vehicle on the slick roadway, traveled off of the east shoulder and struck a tree. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and came to rest in the passing lane.
Drugs and/or alcohol were not believed to be a contributing factors in the crash.
An investigator from the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the crash scene and assisted State Police with the investigation.
