UJA-Federation of New York honors Chappaqua's Yaron Tomer, M.D.
Dr. Tomer recognized for his professional and philanthropic achievements

UJA-Federation of New York honored Chappaqua resident Yaron Tomer, M.D., chair of Medicine, at its Montefiore Health System & Albert Einstein College of Medicine 2018 Annual Reception on May 10, 2018, at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.
Steven Safyer, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Montefiore Medicine, presented Dr. Tomer with his award in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements and commitment to philanthropy.
Dr. Tomer is the Anita and Jack Saltz chair in Diabetes Research, and professor and chair of the Department of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He is a leader in the field of thyroid autoimmunity, including Graves’ and Hashimoto’s diseases. His research focuses on the genetic, epigenetic, and environmental mechanisms underlying thyroid autoimmunity and type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. Dr. Tomer is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the American Thyroid Association’s Van Meter Award and Abbot Thyroid Research Mentor Award. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Born and raised in Israel, Dr. Tomer served as a medical commander in the Israel Defense Forces before coming to the United States. He received his MD degree from the Sackler School of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Sheba Medical Center in Israel and in Endocrinology in the U.S. at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
