Voters Approve Chappaqua Fire Department Modernization Financing

CHAPPAQUA, NY — Voters came through in support of the Chappaqua Fire Department.

Yesterday's bond referendum approval authorizes the fire district to borrow funds for modernization and construction of a 13,000-square-foot addition to the current fire station in Chappaqua.

Based on the 2022 average assessed value of $178,508 for all taxable residential parcels in the Town of New Castle that are served by the New Castle Fire District, the estimated average annual tax increase will be $282. For the parcels in the Town of Mount Pleasant served by the New Castle Fire District, the estimated annual increase is projected to be $225, but the estimates are subject to change based on interest rates and other market fluctuations.

"On behalf of the members of the Chappaqua Fire Dept, I would personally like to thank the residents of the New Castle Fire District for their support of the referendum to modernize the Bedford Road Firehouse," Chappaqua Fire Department Chief Paul Eiden said in a statement released on Wednesday. "All of the support that has been demonstrated through personal contact, social media comments, and most importantly, in the favorable vote to pass the referendum has touched all of us. "

Eiden said that the vote represents not just a victory for the department, but an important public safety win as well.

"Thank you to all of the residents, who took the time to understand that the main focus of the project is to protect the health, wellness, and safety of the volunteers and their families," Eiden said. "We realize that voting in favor of a tax increase is not something to be taken lightly and the fact that the residents approved the referendum is quite meaningful to all of us."
