WATCH: Flag Flown over Bagram Airfield Presented to Roaring Brook School

A U.S. Army captain whose daughter is a student there brought it back from Afghanistan as a thank you. VIDEO

CHAPPAQUA NY — Roaring Brook Elementary School in Chappaqua received a very special gift on Thursday.

WRBS News, the school’s version of morning announcements delivered by the students, had the exclusive when U.S. Army Captain (and RBS parent) Nicholas J. Minella presented Principal Amy Fishkin with an American flag that was flown over Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan on May 30, 2016 during the Resolute Support Mission in honor of Roaring Brook School.

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2015 as a follow-up mission to the International Security Assistance Force, the objective of the Resolute Support Mission is to provide training, advice and assistance for the Afghan security forces and institutions as well as counter-terror and combat.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to present this flag as a thank you for everything that the school has done for us,” Captain Minella explained.

“As we celebrate Veterans Day, we are reminded that this is a day to honor and celebrate Americans like Captain Minella, who represent patriotism, passion for our country, and selflessness in serving for the common good,” Fishkin said. “The holiday is meant to remind nations, and us all, to seek peaceful relationships between one another.”
