Wednesday's Mount Kisco Fire was Fatal

caused by a candle, county police said

An early morning house fire Thursday on St. Mark’s Place in Mount Kisco killed one and injured another, according to The Journal News.

The victim, a 29-year-old, was identified by the paper as Haniel Reyes-Rosario. A woman was also burned. The owner of the home apparently escaped unharmed.

At a press conference videotaped by TJN photographer Ricky Flores, Chief Mario Muccioli said the body was found down in the basement in a second bedroom. Firefighters had not been able to get to him because of heavy smoke.

Many agencies and volunteer firefighters worked to put the fire out, Muccioli said.

An investigation is ongoing. Whether there were smoke detectors and whether there were illegal accessory apartments in the house are apparently among the questions being asked.
