What Would You Regret Missing?

One of my Facebook friends posted a catchy sign that I can not stop thinking about. I am paraphrasing a bit, but it talked about 5 things you can never recover. They all resonate in many aspects of life but I of course feel a need to relate it to parenting. The 5 things are:

“A stone after it is thrown

A word after it is said

Time after it is gone

Trust after it is lost

An occasion after it is missed.” (author unknown)

Think of these and try to remember them when you are interacting with your children. When your child asks you to, “Come quickly and look at how cute the dog is hugging me..” try not to tell her you can’t come right now because you are finishing up loading the dishwasher..

When your teen tells you he hates you and slams his door because you won’t let him go to his friend’s party, think before yelling at him and spewing words you wish you could take back.

I’d love to hear some things you decide not to miss with your children or that you regret missing in the past. Remember you can always choose to start your day over and make it a happy and positive one.
