A woman possibly fitting the description of the person that passed counterfeit, new-design $100 bills in Irvington on March 14, 2014 was taken into custody in Riverside, CT by Greenwich police.
Irvington police have surveillance video from the Black Cat Cafe of the person that paid for purchases with two fake $100s.
Greenwich police report that their officers, in response to a phone call tip received from an employee at Riverside's Walgreens Pharmacy, caught Stephany Quintero, 22, while she was still in the drugstore. Riverside is an affluent neighborhood bordering on Stamford and Old Greenwich.
The arrest took place shortly after 9 p.m., several hours after two fake $100 bills were successfully passed in Irvington at The Black Cat Cafe and a third was accepted at Hudson Toys.
The woman, a resident of Queens, NY, had attempted to pay for approximately $10 in drugstore merchandise with a counterfeit, new-design $100 bill. Additional fake $100 bills and a small quantity of marijuana were found in her purse.
A man was also arrested on the same day in Hamden, CT, attempting to pay for a small purchase with a counterfeit $100 bill at a Walgreens Pharmacy. He and his get-away-car driver were detained by police.
The newly designed $100s were introduced by the Federal Reserve in October, 2013.
