County air service proposal denied by feds (observertoday.com) — Chautauqua County’s latest bid to restore commercial flights from Jamestown’s county airport has been rejected again by the U.S. Department of Transportation, which called projected passenger gains unrealistic. The denial means residents must continue relying on Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Rochester airports despite a county study showing strong regional travel demand.

2. Woman dies in Erie following vehicle-bicycle crash in Chautauqua (goerie.com) — A 78-year-old Chautauqua woman has died after her bicycle was struck by a vehicle on Chautauqua Stedman Road, with the crash occurring July 9 in the town and her passing reported July 11. The 19-year-old Ashville driver has been charged with failing to safely pass a bicyclist as the sheriff’s investigation continues.

3. Chautauqua keeps moratoriums on energy projects (observertoday.com) — The Chautauqua Town Board has extended its moratorium on new wind, commercial solar, and battery energy storage projects for another year while it finishes updating zoning laws with Mayville. Residents raised safety and health concerns, and officials say they want clear rules in place before allowing large-scale energy development to move forward.

4. Healing Help (post-journal.com) — UPMC Chautauqua employees will soon have new help paying for degrees, certifications, and advanced training thanks to a $100,000 gift from a Lakewood couple. Half funds immediate scholarships and half builds an endowment, aiming to strengthen the local healthcare workforce and improve care for patients across the community for years to come.

5. Time to capture and share Chautauqua (post-journal.com) — If you love shooting Chautauqua Lake sunsets, Lake Erie views, or wildlife around the county, your photos could be featured statewide. New York’s DEC Conservationist magazine is accepting up to three digital entries per category through Sept. 8, with winning images published and photographers earning a small honorarium and subscription.
