📰 News we're reading

• 'We have phenomenal students': Williamsville East tops WNY's 2026 school rankings (wkbw.com) — Cheektowaga families will notice several local schools—Cleveland Hill, Maryvale, Cheektowaga High, and John F. Kennedy—earning spots in Buffalo Business First’s 2026 rankings of Western New York public high schools. Williamsville East tops the list overall, while Buffalo and other suburban districts also score strong showings, highlighting how area schools compare across academics, activities, and student data.

• MARCH 2027 - Clarence Central School District (clarenceschools.org) — Cheektowaga families may want to note that Cleveland Hill Schools will host the ECMEA Jazz Festival March 5–6, 2027, bringing young musicians from across the region to town. The broader March 2027 calendar for Clarence schools also includes concerts, festivals, and a Memorial Day parade performance, offering plenty of chances to catch student music close to home.

• Serving the Front Lines (buffalo.edu) — Catholic Health converted its St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga into New York State’s first dedicated COVID-19 treatment hospital, led by retired Navy Rear Adm. Rebecca McCormick-Boyle. Her team rapidly redesigned the building, expanded ICU capacity, and developed safety zones and protocols that later spread across the system. Staff support, mental health, and morale-building became central as they treated hundreds of patients.
