Chelsea Explosion: Manifesto Posted by Person Claiming to be Bomber Discounted, Report Says

The manifesto was posted to the microblogging site Sunday by an author claiming to be the Chelsea bomber.

CHELSEA, NY — The NYPD was reportedly investigating the validity of a Tumblr page titled, "I'm the NY Bomber," but have since discounted the page as irrelevant, according to media reports, citing sources.

Sources told both the NY Daily News and Pix that the NYPD was vetting the so-called manifesto that warned of "more explosions to come." The person who wrote the posts claims to be the individual who planted bombs in Chelsea Saturday night, injuring 29 people.

The page has been taken down but a screenshot posted by the News shows a rainbow flag in the background. The author reportedly posted two posts on Sunday and said the bombs are a protest against the oppression of the LGBT community. The New York Post reported that a 911 call made shortly after the blast warned of "more explosions."

The NYPD's press office could not confirm to Patch that the department was investigating the post but deferred comment to the press conference held by city officials earlier in the day. At the conference, officials said they would investigate all leads.

The Associated Press reported federal investigators had discounted the page.

Police are also investigating damage to an Uber that picked up three passengers moments before the explosion at the Garden of Eden Marketplace at 162 West 23rd Street, Pix is reporting. The driver is being interviewed by NYPD.

An improvised device exploded around 8:30 p.m. on the corner of 23rd Street and 6th Avenue, injuring 29 people. Police later safely recovered a device on 27th Street that appeared to be a pressure cooker rigged to explode.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Commissioner James O'Neill had very few new details on Sunday, confirming it was an intentional act and promising the person, or persons, responsible for the attack would be brought to justice.
