Grimaldi’s in Chelsea Seized by the State

New York's Department of Taxation and Finance seized the restaurant because they failed to pay an excessive amount of overdue sales tax.

CHELSEA, NY — Grimaldi’s, one of the most popular pizza chains in New York, was shut down by the state yesterday.

Located at 656 Avenue of the Americas, Grimaldi’s was an institution, known for their coal-fired brick oven pizza and lines around the block at their Brooklyn locations.

According to CBS New York, New York's Department of Taxation and Finance seized the Chelsea restaurant because they failed to pay nearly $122,000 in overdue sales tax.
