2 Hit By Car While Heading To Vigil For Men Killed In Crash: PD

The pedestrians were on their way to a vigil for the two men who died in a fiery crash earlier Wednesday, police say.

COMMACK, NY - Two pedestrians were struck by a car on Wednesday night while on their way to a vigil for the two men who were killed in a fiery crash at a Commack gas station, according to Suffolk Police.

Two people were crossing Route 454 from the Macy’s parking lot to a vigil at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Route 454 when they were struck by a car at 9:40 p.m.

One person was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital and the other person went to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

They were transported by Commack Rescue.

The extent of their injuries is still unknown. Police have not yet released their identities.

Earlier Wednesday, 27-year-old Hector Sanchez Jr, of Brentwood and 24-year-old Shawn Jenkins Jr., of Bay Shore died after crashing into a gas pump at Sunoco gas station on 2211 Jericho Turnpike at 2:10 a.m. The car then caught fire.
