Babies "R" Us Expands to Bring Toys "R" Us to Commack

Shoppers on Tuesday afternoon entered a new entrance marked by temporary Babies "R" Us banner to get into the store. The former entrance to the baby store was fenced off as construction workers on lifts worked on renovating the interior of the store and front facade to reflect the Toys "R" Us style.
Smithtown Venture LLC, the owners of the Commack-based Babies "R" Us, filed an application with the Town of Smithtown's Planning Department on June 22. The company has requested a variance to increase the maximum height of the store's sign from 15 feet to 30 feet, 5 inches.

The new side-by-side stores hope to share one long, LED illuminated sign that reads "Toys "R" Us Babies "R" Us" in which the largest letter, the company's trademarked reverse "R" is 56 and 5/8 inches tall. The overall sign will cover 141.49 square feet, according to the variance application.
Toys "R" Us returned to its roots by offering childrens' clothing and toys in one location by creating side-by-sides wth Babies "R" Us starting in 2006, according to the company's website. These stores can vary in size from 30,000 square feet to 64,000 square feet.
The standard format for a side-by-side Toys "R" Us with a Babies "R" us is either both stores are full sized if the space allows, or the Toys "R" Us is slightly larger section.
According to the company's reported history, Toys "R' Us Corporation has 180 side-by-side stores across the nation and is continuing to renovate all its existing singular Toys "R" Us or Babies "R" Us stores to this style.
