Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center

Join the Mid Island Y JCC and the Suffolk Y JCC for a meaningful evening exploring Sonja's Legacy, a powerful exhibit featuring the artwork and story of Sonja Fischerova, a young girl from Prague who was imprisoned in the Terezín concentration camp from 1942 to 1944.
Presented by 3GNY in partnership with the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center, the program will feature Doris Usherovitz, Sonja's first cousin, along with her daughter, Ronnit Kessler, and granddaughter, Alana Kessler. Guests will hear the remarkable story behind this family exhibit before touring the artwork and displays.
This special event offers one of the last opportunities to experience the exhibit before it closes on July 2.

Low-compression tennis balls are used based on each student's needs, helping participants develop skills quickly while building confidence and enjoying the game.

Participants will learn proper running techniques and body mechanics to help them run efficiently and safely while developing speed, endurance, and overall fitness.
Classes will be held on Saturdays from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. beginning July 11 and running through August 15, 2026.
Classes will take place outdoors by the side field (Fitness Center side), weather permitting. In the event of rain, classes will be held on the indoor track.

The Suffolk Y JCC's Teen Leadership Training Program offers high school students the opportunity to work with a diverse group of socially conscious peers and create meaningful connections with older adults through engaging intergenerational programming.
Participants will gain hands-on leadership experience while helping to facilitate discussion groups, creative arts activities, technology assistance, and other enriching programs. This unique experience is a great way to develop communication and teamwork skills, build your resume, and earn more than 100 community service hours over the course of the summer.
The program runs Monday, July 27 through Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but space is limited and early application is encouraged.

Students in the program will explore the lessons of the Holocaust while developing leadership skills and helping ensure these important stories continue to be shared with future generations.
