Commack FD Remembers Police Officer Charles Oddo

The local hero died in the line of duty 23 years ago.

From Commack FD: The Commack Fire Department remembered one of their own, Police Officer Charles Oddo who was killed in the line of duty 23 years ago while assigned to NYPD Highway 2. Firefighters led by Department President John Bicocchi and an NYPD Color Guard gathered at the Charles A. Oddo Verleye Park, a special place to remember and pray for Commack FD member and NYPD Highway Patrolman Charles Oddo. Officer Oddo’s parents Joseph and Rose also attended the memorial ceremony, and thanked the department for honoring the memory of their son. Charles Oddo was a guardian and protector from his earliest years. He transitioned from watching over his younger sister in the park, to protecting the people of Commack. He continued to follow that calling, to the NYPD's elite Highway Patrol Unit. Officer Oddo was killed in the in the line of duty when he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic away from an auto accident in 1996. Officer Oddo was 33 years old and served with the NYPD for five years and four months. He followed in the footsteps of his father Joseph, a retired Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol Sergeant.
