Commack Native Dancer Reveals MS Diagnosis

A Commack-native dancer has come out publicly about being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis to share her plight with others. 

Newsday reports Courtney Galiano, a finalist on "So You Think You Can Dance" season four, has announced that she's been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Commack High School graduate has started a non-profit foundation to fight the disease. 

Galiano, 23,  told Newsday she first started noticing signs that something was wrong during the season seven tour. She felt with numbness in her legs, but first thought she may have pinched a nerve or hurt her back. 

Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive neurological disease for which there is treatment, but no cure. Galiano has created a nonprofit foundation, Beat MS, with her brother to help raise funds to fight the disease. 

The Commack dancer held one of her dance workshops, The Beat, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hauppauge in January. More than 165 dance students attended two days of classes in jazz, contemporary, hip hop and more.
