Sharing this good news from Commack Varsity Tennis Coach Shane Helfner regarding the team's annual Autism Awareness Teacher/Player Doubles Tournament held on Tuesday:
I'm proud to say we raised $1,152 for autism awareness that will be donated to NSSA (Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism).
It was a fun day had by all and such a great way to incorporate the school, tennis program, and Commack community for such a great and worthy cause. Everyone was a winner yesterday that participated!
While we always strive for success on the court, our Commack program knows how important it is to give back to the community. Every player on the varsity team asked a teacher from the school district to pair up to form a doubles team. We then had 24 baskets of donations from the Commack community that we sold tickets for as a raffle. We have done this the last four years now and have donated thousands of dollars for autism awareness! Here is how it finished:
1st: Ms. Clark (Guidance counselor) and Cory Seltman
2nd: Mr. Pope (math teacher) and Gabe Green
3rd: Mr. Varughese (Math teacher) and Brandon Kramer
4th: Mr. Pugh (Physical Education teacher) and Jason Gerber
