Long Island Masterworks Chorus Visits Commack

Long Island Masterworks along with the Commack High School Women's Ensemble and Chamber Choir performed pieces by Robert Schumann.

The Long Island Masterworks Chorus joined forces with Commack High School's Chamber Choir and Women's Ensemble Saturday night to perform selected works of Romantic composer Robert Schumann at .

Led by Frances C. Roberts, who also heads the Long Island Philharmonic Chorus and the Long Island Choral Festival & Institute, performers Stephanie D. Watt, Joe Owens and Brian Goldman joined the high school performers to bring Schumann's works to life.

The Long Island Masterworks Chorus opened the show with a mix of Michael Farbman’s strong baritone performance of “Ebro Candolose," soprano performer Lisa Visco’s rendition of “De Dentro Tengo Mi Mal” and a couple of instrumental piano duets from Stephanie D. Watt and Frances C. Roberts.

The groups filled the theater of the school with renditions of compositions including “La Sierra Es Alta," “Vista Ciega, Luz Oscura” and “Jagerlied”.

After a brief intermission, the Commack High School Women’s Ensemble, led by Colleen Agovino, gave a nuanced performance of “Landliches Lied” and "Lied-In Meinem Garten” alongside the Long Island Masterworks Chorus.

The Masterworks Chorus also performed “Zigeunerleben” accompanied by Commack's Chamber Choir led by conductor Wendy Frankonis. 

For the finale, the Long Island Masterworks closed on their own, performing “Zuversicht” and “Talismane” and left the audience cheering.
