Man Killed In Crash On LIE Service Road
BREAKING: A heating company van in a left turn lane went straight instead, striking a car and killing an 88-year-old man Sunday.

COMMACK, NY – An 88-year-old man was killed and two others were hurt in a crash on a Long Island Expressway service road Sunday evening, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, 64-year-old Thomas Maloney, of Dix Hills, was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima west on North Service Road when he attempted make a left turn onto Commack Road from the marked center turning lane. His car was struck by a 2016 Ford van, owned by Holbrook-based Safeguard Heating, that was in the left turn lane, but attempted to go straight at about 5:20 p.m., police said.
Frank Stengl, 88, of Coram, the front seat passenger of the Nissan, was transported via Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The Nissan's rear seat passenger, Joan Walsh, 86, of Central Islip, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries.

Maloney was transported via Dix Hills Fire Department Ambulance to Southside Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the van, Jesse Lombardi, 36, of Patchogue, was not injured and remained at the scene, police said. No criminal charges have been filed.
