Cumberland Farms Hopes to Take Over Vacant Gas Station

Developers are calling for the demolition of the former Gulf gas station off Vets Highway in Commack. 

J. Nazzara Partnership, based in  Bay-Shore, is eyeing the vacant, boarded up gas station on the corner on Veterans Highway and Harned Road  to build a proposed Cumberland Farm convenience store. 

Plans submitted to Smithtown's Planning Department on Jan. 16 propose the existing building - a former gas station and auto mechanic shop - should be demolished. J. Nazzara Partnership would then construct a 2,250 square-foot building with 500-square-foot basement for storage. 

For plans to move forward, the developers are seeking three variances from Smithtown's Board of Zoning appeals including reducing the parking spaces from 24 required to 20 spaces and eliminating a truck loading space. 

If given the green light, this would be the third Cumberland Farms location on Long Island, after Huntington and Huntington Station stores. The company is based out of Framingham, Mass.
