Bio: State Rep. Michael J. Fitzpatrick represents New York State Assembly District 7, which includes the entire Town of Smithtown and portions of the Town of Brookhaven and Town of Islip. He was first elected to the assembly in 2002, and has been subsquently re-elected to office four times in 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010.

Flanagan is the ranking minority member of the Assembly Housing Committee. He also serves on the Assembly Local Governments, Small Business and Higher Education committee. He is an active member of the New York State American-Irish Legislators Society.
State rep. Flanagan lives in St. James with his wife, Lorena Herrera, and their two children, Corina and Michael.
He is running on the Republican, Conservative and Independent party lines.
Education: Fitzpatrick is a Hauppauge High School graduate who received his B.A. in business administration from St. Michael's College in Vermont.
Opponent: Democrat Jesse Safer will challenge Fitzpatrick for the 7th Assembly District.
