Winter Weather Advisory Issued, 'Treacherous' Monday Commutes Loom
Check out the latest forecast.
There are just 40 more days until the first day of spring, but that will be little comfort for commuters on Monday who will need to deal with another wintry mess on the roadways.
Long Island and New York City will be under a winter weather advisory from midnight Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain will transition to freezing rain late Sunday night and then mix with sleet and snow by late Monday morning, the NWS says. A transition to mainly snow is expected Monday afternoon.

Snow accumulations of 1-2 inches, along with nearly two-tenths of an inch of ice, are likely for most of Long Island, the NWS says. The South Fork may see less than an inch of snow and also less ice accumulation than the rest of the island.
The precipitation will taper off from west to east Monday evening and end as light snow across most of the region, the NWS says.

“For much of the New York City area, the concern is more about ice than snow,” AccuWeather.com meteorologist Brian Thompson said. “While there may only be an inch or two of snow in many places, a mix of sleet and freezing rain can make driving and walking very treacherous.”
Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be dry, with the next chance of snow coming on Thursday, the NWS says.
