• Mosquito samples test positive for West Nile virus (trihamletnews.com) — Mosquitoes collected in Copiague have tested positive for West Nile virus, putting local residents on alert even though no human cases have been reported so far this year. Suffolk County health officials urge everyone, especially older adults and those with weakened immune systems, to avoid mosquito bites and report dead birds or mosquito problems to county hotlines. Simple steps like repellents and removing standing water can reduce risk. 
• Bellport Woman Admits Sex Trafficking Girl, 14, In Exchange For Crack: Authorities (dailyvoice.com) — A Copiague home is at the center of a disturbing child sex-trafficking case, where authorities say a 14-year-old girl was abused in exchange for drugs. A Bellport woman has now admitted to sex trafficking, promoting prostitution, and child endangerment, and is expected to receive a 12-year prison sentence this fall. Multiple defendants, including the alleged Copiague dealer, still face charges.
