20-Year-Old Man Charged In Long Island Hit-And-Run

He struck a jogger with his car and then fled the scene Wednesday, police say.

A 20-year-old West Islip man has been charged in a hit-and-run that injured a jogger in Bay Shore on Wednesday.

Steven Sabato was arrested on Friday after a thorough investigation by Third Precinct Crime Section officers, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, Sabato was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion east on Montauk Highway around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday when he veered onto the shoulder and struck a man who was jogging eastbound. Sabato then fled the scene, police said.

The jogger, who police have not named, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ford Fusion was impounded for evidence.

Sabato was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with physical injury. He will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Saturday.
