Bicyclist Seriously Hurt After Being Hit by Box Truck in Deer Park

The crash occurred Monday afternoon, police say.

DEER PARK, NY - A 56-year-old man is in the hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a box truck while riding his bike in Deer Park Monday afternoon, police said.

According to police, Vincent Kelleher, who is homeless, was riding a bike south on Commack Road when a box truck that was attempting to make a right onto westbound Marcus Boulevard from southbound Commack Road struck him at about 2:10 p.m.

Kelleher was transported by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old St. James man, was not injured. No criminal charges have been filed as First Squad detectives continue to investigate.
