Business Profile: Renegade Classics Outlet Store

A profile of one of the local small business entered in the Chase/Living Social grant program.

In an economic period when companies are struggling to stay afloat, Chase and Living Social have launched the $3 million program “Mission: Small Business” giving business owners the chance to win a grant to spend in a way that will benefit them and their communities. Over the next two weeks Patch will be profiling the local small business owners entered in the competition that reside in Deer Park and North Babylon.

Renegade Classics Outlet Store appears to be a typical retail business on the outside, selling everything a biker may need from leather to boots and bags. But store owner Lisa Chiovarelli says her shop does more than sell motorcycle merchandise, as she continuously dedicates her time to charity work to benefit the Deer Park community.

"I think that's what makes us a little different is that we are very involved in the community and very involved in raising money for issues that are important to our customers. We have charity events here on a monthly basis and motorcyclists are very aware of charity and very much involved in charity so we support that."

Chiovarelli, whose business is celebrating its seven-year-anniversary this month, says she helps raise awareness and money for multiple causes.

"We've had runs here for just about every type of medical issue that a person could be involved in and raised money for that. We ourselves have a toy run every year. We have a breast cancer run every year. We also have a run to support veterans."

Being laid off twice in two years from marketing jobs is what made Chioverelli decide to open her outlet store. Now managing up to seven employees, the 20-year Deer Park resident said she is ready to expand her store if she were to win one of the grants.

"I don't have a lot of sport bike merchandise or room for that so I can't service those customers. I really would like to expand and then also include parts as well because people ask me for those items too."

All businesses entered in the grant program must receive a minimum of 250 votes to be considered for one of the grants. The 12 grant winners will be announced on September 15. To vote for Renegade Classics Outlet Store, go to: www.missionsmallbusiness.com.
