Dozens Displaced After Deer Park Apartment Fire Spreads To 10 Units: Fire Officials
Heavy fire on the second floor of a Deer Park apartment building led to a multi-department response Saturday, officials say.
DEER PARK, NY — Firefighters battled a heavy apartment fire in Deer Park Saturday afternoon that tore through a second-floor unit and prompted a large mutual aid response, fire officials said.
The Deer Park Fire Department was activated around noon for a fire at the Maple Crest complex apartment building on Baldwin Path. Crews encountered heavy fire conditions on the second floor and quickly transmitted a working fire.
Due to the volume of fire, additional resources were requested. Mutual aid departments from across the area responded to assist.

Firefighters stretched multiple hose lines and launched an aggressive interior and exterior attack as flames pushed through the building. Ladder companies were positioned to access upper floors while crews conducted primary searches of the affected apartments.
The fire was brought under control in around an hour and 40 minutes, according to fire officials.

Other responding crews remained on scene for extended operations, with units working for several hours to fully extinguish hot spots and secure the structure.
The Red Cross will provide housing for affected residents, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
