Maryann Maltese, former Regional Communications Manager for the NYS Legislature for 18 years calls upon Governor Andrew Cuomo and the State Legislators of both State Houses to Schedule Emergency Legislative Session before Thanksgiving. We simply can not wait until the new Class of Legislators takes offices in January 2021 to help assist Long Islanders-it must be now.

Long Islanders like many New Yorkers are suffering-many quietly, but with Banks not being required to provide COVID 19 Deferment Payment Options by New York State; it's leaving the decision to the Financial Industries to decide "if they want to offer consumers extended time frames-or Not" to pay monthly credit card bills. Some Banks; like Citibank-offered clients 2 or 4 month COVID Relief Deferred Payment Options for qualified clients-but State of Emergency Orders have not been lifted-so now the Financial Institutions are not providing COVID 19 Deferment options. NYS needs to step forward and within Executive Order mandates implement new emergency requirements for the Financial Industry mandating such relief.

If the Banks choose not too; and NYS doesn't intervene on New Yorker's behalf-then Banks are offering Bankruptcy related Relief Programs at fees to pay down debt-but the result is closing that account and most likely negative amortization classifications will be applied to one's credit-"forcing the account to close" placing the Client or Consumer in worse shape financially. That status is the equivalent of filing bankruptcy-which if one is in an industry that requires you to have an open line of credit or the ability to take out loans-you may not be eligible to do so in the near future. That is unacceptable banking practices-and boarders on the line of illegalities, said Maryann Maltese-licensed Real Estate Associate at Cow Harbor Realty-former candidate for NYS Assembly 12th Assembly District. Ms. Maltese was denied access to the Election ballot by Suffolk County Supreme Court based on Judicial refusing to hear her complaint of the EO 202's language eliminating this seat from extended candidate filing requirements. However, I was employed with NYS during several State of Emergencies and have vast knowledge how to problem solve issues-or take action to problem solve.

I can not stress enough to Credit Card Holders to be diligent now-taking inventory of your credit cards and speaking with your creditors to see if your Financial Institution provided COVID 19 relief deferment programs-and if not; touching base with your State Legislator inquiring where the Governor and/or your Representative stands on expanding EO Languages to include ensure that the Financial Industry is providing new COVID 19 Mandates of Deferred Payments without Penalties for as long as COVID 19 mandates of "stay home-do not gather-etc" are in place. Presently speaking those State of Emergency Orders are in place through January 2021-so the Banking Industry should and must be required to follow NYS's EO demands.

If as a Candidate- I was required to minimize my collecting and asking Voters for their signature as a sign of support; then quite frankly-NYS should be taking proactive steps to ensure that any and all vital services that impact your life is required to do the same without penalties and interest adding on so that one never gets above water, said Maryann Maltese.

Join me; in asking the Governor-to extend the EO 202.2 protections provided to Banking Consumers (those of us who hold credit card accounts) to mandate banks provided deferred payment options with minimal or no fees associated until NYS fully removes State of Emergency Pandemic orders. If additional reasons are needed-just look towards when elimination of rental protections is eliminated January 2, 2021. Families need time to get back on their feet-before Creditors begin to dismantle one's lives.
